  • newbee questions: sync + ssh + linux version

    Hi,

I'm trying to find a faster sync alternative to Unison. I was wondering:
    - after a comparison: how can I tell bc to do synchronization between 2 roots? (I can tell it to sync from right to left or left to righ, but I don't see how it does both)
    - When there's a timestamp difference (red color) - bc indicates that there's no difference. I've tried to sync up the time stamps but they ended up going to the wrong root. Any hints on this?

    - Any pointers on synching via ssh?

    - Will there ever be a linux version of this product?

If there any URLs that answer this - please let me know.

    Thanks,

    EL

    Hi,

In an interactive session of BC, select Actions|Synchronize Folders|Custom Sync.
In the Custom Sync Dialog, select Bidirectional Update as the Type of sync:. It will copy newer files to either side.

    - When there's a timestamp difference (red color) - bc indicates that there's no difference. I've tried to sync up the time stamps but they ended up going to the wrong root. Any hints on this?

Are you using just timestamp as your comparison criteria? If you use content based comparison other than size, it will over-ride timestamp differences and mark the files equal. You can make the timestamp and content comparison independent by checking "Independent timestamp, content comparison results" in the Advanced tab of Session|Comparison Control.

    - Any pointers on synching via ssh?

We don't support ssh directly, but you can find a workaround at:

    - Will there ever be a linux version of this product?

We are looking into developing a Linux port of BC, but we don't have a set time frame yet.
