  • Secure FTP

I've been using BC for a couple of weeks now and I think it's great!

I'd like to know though if there are plans to make it compatible with secure FTP sites? I am unable to use it with one of my remote web sites because it used SFTP.

    Cheers,

    Re: Secure FTP

We do plan to add SFTP support at some point in the future, but we don't have a time frame for availability yet.

In the meantime, we have a workaround using an FTP to SFTP bridge. You can find details at:

        Chris,

Unfortunately, the work around as documented does not work for me. I do not have TELNET access to the SFTP server I need to connect to. Therefore, I would appreciate it if you can get SFTP implemented in your product natively in the near future. Thanks.

          Re: Secure FTP

SFTP is on our list for BC, but I'm not sure how long it will be before it is available.

In the meantime, you might also want to consider Webdrive:
          http://www.southrivertech.com/index....webdrive/index

It should allow you to map an SFTP site to a drive letter on your system.

            Re: Secure FTP

I had some problems with server timeouts when transferring large files using the MindTerm SFTP bridge, but I found another SFTP bridge that works well, especially if I leave the SSH window open while transferring. It's called Bitvise Tunnelier and can be downloaded at

            http://www.bitvise.com/tunnelier.html

It does not require Java or anything else and is free for personal use.

              Re: Secure FTP

Thanks for making the recommendation. I just tested the trial version and I was very impressed. I'll add it to our SFTP knowledge base page as soon as I have time.

                Re: Secure FTP

I was having trouble using Mindterm for the SFTP->FTP Bridge after my server changed to using ldap authentication. I tried using Tunnellier and it worked great!

                Thanks for the suggestion!!

                  Re: Secure FTP

One problem I have with the mindterm FTP->SFTP bridge is that if passive mode is turned on in BC2, the connection breaks. I don't know if this is actually the bridge, or the SFTP server. Does anyone else have problems with this? I have to use passive in some other settings, so, perhaps that should be part of the session? Any ideas?

                    Re: Secure FTP

Have you tried using the Bitvise Tunnelier SFTP bridge? I just double checked on my own system and it worked correctly with BC in passive mode.

We have updated bridge instructions with Tunnelier at: http://www.scootersoftware.com/support.php?c=kb_ssh.php
