  • How does "site license" work ?

Is this a kind of floating license, or a "decrementer"
valid for N installations ? i.e. if 5 people on my site
want to use BC, but there will only be 3 users at
any one time, do I need to buy 5 or 3 licenses ?

    Thanks,

    Vincent

A site license is for the number of individuals that will be using BC, or the number of computers BC will be installed on.

There are two scenarios for determining how many licenses you need. More computers than users, or more users than computers.

In most cases, you need to purchase a BC license for each user. Each user can install BC on any number of computers as long as they will be the only ones using BC. If this is your case, you will need a 5 user license.

In another case, such as a computer lab, you can purchase licenses for each computer BC is installed on, and any number of users can use BC. In your case, if you will only install BC on 3 computers, then you can just purchase a 3 user license.

Can the site licenses be managed in a remote license server?

Beyond Compare doesn't have a license server component to enforce the user limit. This is why it is a named user license and not a concurrent license.

If you have a method to enforce the user limit using some other license management software, then you can use the license as a concurrent user license. Otherwise it is a named user license.
