  • Range Check Error

Below is an extract from the log file showing the Range Check Error.

This process is being run from a server with Beyond Compare installed. Until recently it has been working successfully for months. It appears we're able to reach the remote FTP location and even transfer some information but the requested files fail to transfer.

If I run Beyond Compare from my local machine, I can see the files in the correct location and download them.

I have spoken to our network security staff and they tell me that this problem is not related to local security issues.

    Any thoughts? Ideas?

    Re: Range Check Error

I'm not sure why this error is showing up.

Are you running the latest version of BC (2.3.1)? If not, please update and see if the problem persists.

Also, because it worked on your local system but not on the server, are both systems set to use Passive Mode FTP? You can check in the FTP > Firewall/Proxy section of Tools|Options.

If the server is running a script as a scheduled task to connect to the FTP server, it might also be helpful to try running the script on your local system if you only tested an interactive session on your local machine.

      Re: Range Check Error

      Chris,

I'm terribly sorry. I feel like a real jerk.

You were right on the money, the server was running 2.1.1 plus Passive Mode was not enabled.

The thing is that I know the server was at 2.3.1 with passive mode enabled a few weeks ago. I had upgraded it myself shortly after 2.3.1 was released. Sadly, I had searched your forum for Range Check Error and seen resolutions in release fix lists but ignored them because I "knew" we were running the latest release.

Following the upgrade I also found the "Temp" folder where data is initially downloaded to was missing.

It appears that someone has restored an old version of the server without my knowledge.

      Appologies for wasting your time.

      Phil
