  • How to save a FILE comparing session?

    Hi,

A folder comparing is called a session and can be saved. But is there any way to save a file comparing?

    Hi!

As far as I know there is no such a session manager for files like there is one for folders.
When you want to compare the same files again and again, 2 solutions come in my mind:

    - When the file viewer is started the path and the filename are displayed in a dropdown bow above the file content. Here you can click on the dropdown button to get a history of the previously loaded files.

    - Create a DOS batchfile where bc2.exe is called and the filenames are passed as parameters. Look at the BC-helpfile for a detailed description of the start parameters of bc2.exe.

    Hope this helps ...

    Bye

      Thanks.
Yes, I know these. As for me, I often use StrokeIt to invoke BC with parameters, or to invoke a batch file, to do repetitions. Yet I still hope the session manager can save and manage file compares. Hope the developers will consider this suggestion.

        Hi B2C,

For version 3, we're looking at expanding the session concept to cover file comparisons as well. Can you describe how you would make use of file comparison sessions?

I welcome comments from anyone else about this also. As we redesign session management, I'd like to have in mind different usage scenarios.

        Thanks,

          Thank you for the reply!

Ur, what I think is that I can save and manage file comparison sessions just like what we do on folder ones. -- A file comparison session can be saved from the File Viewer, and can be picked from the standard Open Session dialog on startup. And in the Session Manager ...

These'll be enough for me. Or maybe till I get these, I won't know what more I want.

Speaking about the standard Open Session dialog on startup, if I click the Cancel button, BC will still open with an empty session. I hope there's a way to close the dialog and not to open BC further. Maybe you can add a Close button for the dialog.

One way that I would use this is to document a compare session (what I did and where they were) and be able to easily repeat the compare of these same files.

Being able to save a comparing session to file would also be a nice feature if doubleclicking this file opens BC with that session.

This is on our wish list.

It is possible to create a shortcut to launch a comparison of specified files.

Create a shortcut to Beyond Compare 2 or copy the shortcut created on your desktop by BC's installer.

Right click on the shortcut and select Properties.

In the shortcut tab, change the target to:

                "c:\program files\beyond compare 2\bc2.exe" "c:\file1.txt" "c:\file2.txt"
