There isn't a way to display the column numbers without editing in the current version of BC, but it will be a useful feature to have so I've added it to our wish list for a future release of BC.

Corrected to column (rather than line). Thanks for the catch.
I can see the column number when I edit a line, but the line being edited loses the difference colour coding.
Ideally I'd like what BC1.9 did, i.e. being able to see the column number without needing to go into edit mode (to avoid accidental changes), and keeping the colour coding visible (e.g. by showing a border around the selected character position).
In BC1.9 if you selected a character in the line details area at the bottom of the file viewer, it would show the character's column number ("col=<whatever>") to the left of the line details. That was incredibly useful when comparing things like fixed-length data files created by different program versions.
Is there a way to do that in BC2.3.1?
If not, can it be considered for a future enhancement please?
