  • ignoring fields in BC

Is there a way in beyond compare to ignore certain bytes of a file? Say I know that bytes 10, 11 and 12 are never going to match up, can I ignore them with a rule?

Also, is there any way to cast the data to a structure, say from c++, and ignore certain elements?

    thanks for the help

Beyond Compare can't ignore specific bytes for a binary or CRC comparison.

If you do a rules-based comparison, you can't mark by specific bytes, but you can ignore based on columns, text delimiters, regular expressions, or page headings. This is all covered in the Rules>File Importance Rules of Beyond Compare's help file.

ok, so if I convert the binary data to text, tab delimited, I can ignore certain columns? Using regular expressions?

Yes, if you have a text file, you can ignore specific columns of text, or ignore text using regular expressions. This is all covered in the section of the help file that I mentioned earlier.
