  • compare ftp sites: symbolic links to files

I just noticed that when I compare 2 linux/unix machines via FTP, BC2 gets in trouble if it reaches a file that is a symbolic link to another file. Symbolic links to directories work well.

Directory comparison always end with "Transfer cancelled". Sometimes it is still possible to compare file content, sometimes that is stucked as well.

    Any ideas?

I haven't been able to repeat this, but there is an option you can switch to try changing this. Go into the FTP options and try switching the "Link Resolution" command.

Fast just looks for a the presense of a file extension, and treats it as a directory if there isn't one.
Simple preforms a CWD command on each link and any that succeed are marked as directories.
Complete looks at the link target and finds the real file or directory based on what BC knows about the FTP site. It might get messed up by circular links, but it's the only one that will show the target's size and timestamp information.

I get the same problem under the same circumstances - as soon as it hits the symbolic link directory I just get thousands of Transfer Cancelled messages streaming off the log window.

I will try the fixes and see if it makes any difference...

I just changed the setting from Fast to Simple and now it follows the link and completes the comparison correctly!

        Great
