  • BC hangs on binary comparison

    Hi,

I have a session set up with Criteria set to Compare Timestamps and Compare Contents = Binary comparison. Quite often I find that BC will hang during the comparison process. This happens on random flies (regardless of file type or size). When it happens, I cannot even close the application. Instead, I'm forced to bring up the Task Manager and kill BC. Any suggestions? I'm running BC 2.2 (build 218).

    Thanks in advance,
    -Haniel

Are the files local? Or on an ftp or network drive?

Do you experience any hangs if you copy the files between locations using Windows Explorer?

      Haniel,

Did this just start happening in 2.2, or were you having the same trouble in a previous release?

It happens on synchronization between a local directory and an FTP site.

          Craig,

It has been happening since previous versions (2.1 I believe).

          Any suggestions?

Try setting ftp to passive mode from Tools|Options and the Firewall / Proxy section.
Also, are there any symlinks in the folder you are comparing on the ftp server? Changing the link resolution settings might also help if a link is causing the hang. You can find link resolution under Tools|Options Ftp.
