  • rule to ignore end of line

    Hi,
I am trying to create a new rule that will compare the following Windows files as the same:

    file 1:
    abcdefghijklmnop

    file 2:
    abc
    def
    ghi
    jkl
    mnop

I thought adding the rule "Text matching \r\n" in the Unimportant Text on the Importance tab would do the trick. Didn't work... any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Re: rule to ignore end of line

This isn't possible because of the way the current version of BC handles comparisons. BC compares text as single lines. BC doesn't have the ability to compare across multiple lines.

We are looking into comparison across lines for a future version of BC, but we don't know if/when such a feature will be available.

The only way to compare contents like this as equivalent with the current version of BC is to use an external converter. The external converter would have to transform the text in a type 2 file to the type 1 text before comparison.
