tar file that is not an archive

We have got .tar files that are not archives but simple text.
I tried to configure a file format for it (a copy of the RTF entry), but could not get it to work. It is still displayed and handled as a folder.

Is that even possible?

Found it: Just remove the *.tar extension from the Archive associations for Tar in Options/Folder Views.

Exactly (and then reboot the program, for anyone else finding this post). On restart of the application, the file will then be treated as a file and not as an archive.
