  • Compare using ...

    Hi, there:

On BC2, there's "Compare using..." options for mouse operation on 2nd file or when 2 files are selected.

Why BC3 does not support this?
I konw BC3 is smart can reconize the type of file, but I just need to compare my files in different way(in HEX mode), and BC3 sometimes does not reconize the type of file correctly.

    Thanks.

    In BC3, go to Tools\Options\Startup

You can add "Compare Using" to the Explorer context menu from here.

Yes, you can set it to use "compare using...".
But, if those two files are ".rar " this menu item still cannot be popped except you delete "unrar.dll".

            Still problem with "compare using..."

Yes, you can configure it to get the function of "compare using...".
But, if the file type is .rar, you still cannot get that menu item except you delete unrar.dll.

            I think it's a bug.

Compare in New View Using... is for Files, where Compare in New View defaults to Folder behavior. Since .Rar files are archives, the default behavior is to treat them as folders. You can go to the Session menu -> Session Settings -> Handling: Archive handling As Files if you want to force archives to be treated as files. You can also remove Rar from the Archive group under the Tools menu -> Options -> Folder Views. Rar: remove *.rar.

I would strongly recommend not deleting files from the install directory and putting unrar.dll back, or reinstalling the software.

Even BC3 has default behavior, I would strongly recommend restore that choice to user just like BC2. Because sometime user want to use hex view to compare two file with default file type.

                  Hello digicomm,

Right. You can control it by changing your default session settings to Treat Archives as Folders or Files. Or you can remove RAR as an archive, which will always treat it as a Binary File, which can be associated with the HEX compare Use the Tools menu -> File Formats, and create a new Hex file format associated with .rar.
