  • help for configuration needed

    Hi everybody,

until lately i only used BC3 for the tracking of simple changes.

But now i have to merge log-files from different sensors (hardware) together.

The format is not important in deep, but it contains blocks of lines which have to stay together. The block starts with a line "Session begin: <some date&time>" and ends with a line "Session end: <some date&time>".

I think it should be possible to define some kind of ruleset or grammar-definition to align the blocks without torning them appart, but i had no luck.

At the moment i have to use manual alignment, which costs a lot of time.

Could anybody lend me a hand or give some advice?

Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany

    Hello,

How many different blocks do you need to manually align? It may help to define a grammar for the first line of each type of block, or a grammar that covers the entire block, and combine that with Never Align Differences and Everything Else is Unimportant. If you would like any help or details on settings this up, please just let us know.

Unfortunately, BC3 does not have a block awareness for alignment at this time.

          Aaron,

I am currently trying to compare .INI-Files and am struggling with what seems to be the missing "block awareness": I would like comparisons to be done sectionwise, but if that is what you refer to with "block awareness" which isn't available, are there any workarounds?

          Tx

          Michael

Tweaking the alignment options and using the grammar items to define unimportant text in combination with Never Align Differences can help. If you'd like to email us a pair of sample files, please also include a link to this forum thread for our reference.

Are the blocks out of order? If so, they would need to be sorted first using an external process. We have an example KB article here:
