  • Does bcomp wait for folder compares to end?

    As per the question ;

    bcomp.com and bcomp.exe appear to return immediately when doing a folder comparison from the command line.
    Bcompare.exe waits.

    bcomp.com and bcomp.exe wait when doing a file comparison.
    So does Bcompare.exe

    I know this gets discussed a lot but after plenty of experimentation with my version control tools I am still a little confused.

    No, bcomp does not support waiting for folder comparisons right now. BCompare will only do so if you use the /solo switch; if you don't and there's another instance open it will return immediately.

    Are you launching folder comparisons from a VCS system or something else where waiting would be appropriate? We don't currently return an exit code for folder comparisons either, regardless of which executable you use.

      Launching folder comparisons from a version control system ; it constructs one or more temporary file trees and trashes them when the comparison command returns.

        Ok, thanks. We'll look into allowing bcomp waits in this case. Out of curiosity, what VCS system are you using?

          I am observing this behavior with ClearCase Remote Client.

            We're releasing a new version today that takes care of the problem with the ClearCase remote client. Due to the short release schedule for this one it doesn't affect other folder comparisons, but it shouldn't be difficult to extend it to that soon.
