New FTP

When doing FTP>local, picking various files and starting copying, if I try to change base folder, BC prevents me doing so except by terminating operations. Shame!

And when to workaround, I open a new tab, it's FTP side fails to refresh (perhaps until the current FTP operations complete).

Any solutions?

Changing the base folders will cancel any active operations on that comparison. Different transfer solutions here are on our Customer Wishlist.

The FTP Connection is probably not refreshing b/c the server is using all of its connections for the transfer. Turn down the number of connections used in the FTP profile to have a spare one in order to continue browsing. If it is already at 1, then you would have to wait until that 1 is available again.

I had hoped that would be between files, but it seems not. Does "available again" occurs only when all operations have finished? In which case the point is somewhat defeated.

Sorry, Aaron's wrong about which way you should adjust your connections. If you've limited BC to using a single FTP connection to that server it's going to use the same one for file transfers and directory listings. When all of the connections are in use it does round-robin scheduling of all of the operations (so retrieving listings and copying files will alternate). I did find an oddity where it will copy 2 files before doing a directory listing, but it still did the listing on the new tab before continuing with the copies after those two. Of course if your current operation is transferring a large file, you're going to have to wait for it. If you don't want to, increase the number of connections.

I have (to 10), but still (with two copy operations) the new tab refresh is delayed until a first tab file completion.
