  • Equal shows Not Equal

When I do a folder compare, it shows all files as not equal, however when I compare an individual file it shows equal and when I close the file compare view, it shows that file equal in the folder compare list. This is new behavior and I must have some setting wrong from my recent re-install. It used to show all of the equal files in black, so I knew to ignore them. Now I have to open each one. Can someone tell me where this global setting is?

The issue is that the Folder Compare defaults to a timestamp and size comparison. When you double click on files, that triggers a comparison of the text using a Rules-based Comparison. You can enable that by default by going to the Home screen, Edit session defaults (Green folder), select the Folder Compare, then go to the Comparison tab and enable Rules-based comparison (leave the other options at default settings).

Here is a KB article with more details:
Beyond Compare is a multi-platform utility that combines directory compare and file compare functions in one package. Use it to manage source code, keep directories in sync, compare program output, etc.

Does that answer all of your questions?
