  • Slow FTP

I am just starting to use BC3 to upload and download files to a website using FTP. I have not done this before but BC3 seems very slow. eg ~2min to log into the FTP server; 1-2 minutes to copy a file, etc.

It is not the link or the server because I can open the same file in IE in seconds. And Net2FTP logs in 5-10s.

So it something to do with BC3 and my machine configuration.

I suspect the firewall (Norton 360) but it has entries to allow TCP connections from BC so I am not sure what more can be done there.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I might improve performance?

You can customize BC3's FTP settings in the "Tools > FTP Profiles" dialog.

In FTP Profiles, it might help to try checking or unchecking "Passive transfers (PASV)" in the "Connection" tab. You can also try checking "Compress transfers (MODE Z)" in the "Transfer" tab.

Thanks for this. In fact, the problem went away after I rebooted. My guess is that it was something to do with the firewall. Performance is now fine.
