Thanks Aaron SFTP seems to work better.

The current way profiles display is the only thing I dislike about your product. If you have large numbers of profiles as I do it is unworkable especially if you have no control of the naming of usernames.

    Thanks

    Hello,

SFTP is certainly worth a shot, and is built-in functionality in BC3 Pro.
In case you are running Std edition: http://www.scootersoftware.com/suppo...?zz=kb_evalpro

The list is alphabetical by the server name (and displays the username in front). Customizing this and renaming profiles is on our Customer Wishlist.

    Hi Aaron,

Yes each of my profiles is using a different connection.

The issues that I am getting only seem to happen on a cloud based cpanel server. Connecting to other linux and windows servers do not result in the large number of connections.

As a work around the tech support have suggested that i connect through sftp instead.

I will try you suggestion as well.

My main difficulty with your suggestion is how difficult it is to locate the profile I am using in the profile list. How is this list sorted? Is there anyway of getting it to list alphabetically? I wish it would display each profile as the "save as" name rather than [email protected]. This makes it very difficult to locate the profile I need to edit or checfk.

    Thanks

    Hello Stuart,

I don't see any obvious disconnections/reconnections. A couple of quick tips:
Try disabling MSLD in the Listing tab of the default or specific profile
Try switching between Passive and Active (disable PASV) in the Connection tab.

This leads into another point: <default> is used when connecting to a new FTP server. However, if this sever has a unique name, ip, port, and initial directory combination, it will auto-generate a new Profile. If each tab is connecting to a different profile (which are all listed in the Tools menu -> FTP Profiles), each profile gets "1" connection. Does this make sense? Does it look like each of your tabs might be using a different Profile in the FTP Profiles dialog?

    Hi Aaron,

Not sure what you mean by:

"Are you using the /solo parameter or do you have multiple BCompare.exe processes running?"

I am having a single BC3 running with each site in a tab. Sometimes I might have 3 or 4 sites running at once. But working on only one. All other sites are idle.

Yes my default connection is set to use 1 connection.

I am using version 3.3.4 on windows 7 64 bit.

I cannot see any disconnections in the logs. This is typical of what I see (happy to PM the full log):

I have removed domains and IP's from this log.

The webhost has also sent through the following log:

May 4 22:01:14 x lfd[20918]: Incoming IPx temporary block removed

The only ftp client I use is BC3. I only have this issue on this server.

    Thanks,

    Stuart

    Hello,

BC3 itself should be limited to 1 connection at that point. Even if you open multiple tabs, the 2nd tab would be in a "Waiting" status until the 1 connection slot is available. Are you using the /solo parameter or do you have multiple BCompare.exe processes running? If so, each could use 1 connection.

Is your default FTP Profile also configured to use 1 connection?

Also, are you using the latest version of BC3 (3.3.4)? For Windows or Linux?

Are there any disconnections/reconnections in the log? My current guess is that if so, BC3 is failing to connect to the server for some reason, disconnecting, but the server then thinks it is still connected. When BC3 reconnects, the server would then think that is 2 connections if it never cleared the previous disconnection.

started a topic Webhost blocking my Ip due to too many connections

Webhost blocking my Ip due to too many connections

My webhost uses cpanel and the server is frequently blocking me due to too many concurrent connections. The server limits connections to 12.

At one stage it registered that I had 718 connections

I have set all my ftp profiles I have simultaneous connections set to 1.

Is there anything else I need to do to limit connections.

    Thanks,

    Stuart
