Alright. Where'd the handy "insert blank line" goto? :)

In BC2, I used the insert blank line, so I could merge over a particular line above another. I would insert blank(s), then align the line(s) I wanted to copy to the other side, copy, and then ctrl-s.

I can't find any way to do the similar thing in BC3
What's the secret?

If I use full edit, and insert a blank line, BC3 considers that a region, and even if I align and copy, the whole region get copied over.

Since I never used BC2, I'm not entirely sure how you're thinking. In BC3, you can select the section you want from the left and copy it, then put the cursor where you want it to go on the right and paste it. You don't need to create space for it.

Depending on what you're talking about doing, you can also select a portion of the left and Isolate it (either by right mouse button or edit menu) and then take the new section to the right.

Use Edit -> Copy Line to Left/Right [Shift+Ctrl+L/R]. Also, you can get BC2-like behavior by disabling Edit -> Full Edit.

A gutter click will select a line instead of a complete difference section. If you see a skinny green copy arrow, then you are copying a manual selection. If you see a fat yellow copy arrow, then you are copying an entire difference section.

You can also right-click on the toolbar and choose Customize Commands... and add two additional items to your right-click context menu:

Insert Line Before (Shift+Ctrl+Enter)
Insert Line After (Ctrl+Enter)

I managed to use the copy/paste method, but I'd *still* like to have the right click menu have my old nemesis, insert blank line.

BUT, I can't find it!

It doesn't seem to be in the Customize Commands menu that would let me set up its use...

I right click on the toolbar when a comparison is up. I pick customize commands ... there's no "insert blank line" selection to pick!



(Oh, and that "gutter click" is priceless! They have so much stuff compacted in here that it's like easter egg hunting!

As I indicated in my last post, there is no longer a single "Insert Blank Line" for the context menu, but there are two replacements that can be added to the context menu:

Insert Line Before (Shift+Ctrl+Enter)
Insert Line After (Ctrl+Enter)

Both will insert a blank line. One inserts it before the current line. The other inserts it after the current line.

In BC2, you could put darn near anything on the toolbar...

Now, I can't seem to figure out how to get the toolbar connected to the insert line. There seems to be a bunch of missing icons compared to BC2 ...

With the addition of the "Full Edit" mode the Scooter team did not consider it necessary to bring forward certain functionalities from BC2 into BC3. The insert line functionality is an example of one of those (since you can simply press the "Home" key to go to the beginning of a line then press "Enter" to insert a new line). In the end, they kept the options in the new version due to feedback from some loyal BC die-hards like me, but kept them out of the menus by default.

Regarding what can go on the toolbar, several users have complained that BC3 is not configurable enough. The main problem, as I see it, is that items on the toolbar need graphical icons associated with the functionality. Minor functionalities that don't have icons associated with them will not be available on the toolbar. If the functionality is important enough to place on the toolbar, then perhaps it warrants the creation of a button icon... but I doubt that the insert line functionality will fall into that category.
