This must be a false positive!

If you are unsure wether your anti-virus program works correctly, then try scanning the file at a site like http://virusscan.jotti.org .

There it has found no infection for BCompareSetup_080919.exe ...

    Bye

      Hello Sanjiv,

This is a false positive, the file is not infected. We scan every release of Beyond Compare with McAfee Anti-Virus, and it reported the Beyond Compare installer as safe.

We also scan every release using the scanning service at www.virustotal.com. It scans with 36 different anti-virus products. Of 36 products, it currently reports one false positive for "Win32/Adclicker.JO" from the "eTrust-Vet" scanner. You can see the virus scanning results here.

The installer from our web site is safe to install on your computer. If you have any questions, please let us know.

I can trust your judgement and knowledge, However my computer is not allowing download and access to this file.

Further, can you please suggest one Anti-virus for SOHO pcs (Presently, I use CA Anti-virus)

        With regards

If no one reports the false positive, then CA won't know to fix it...

Actually, eTrust is my favorite SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) solution...partially because the version I use (7.0) has a simple interface and does not require annual renewals. Since eTrust 7.0 is nearing the end of it's life-cycle, however, I'll need to start evaluating alternatives.

McAfee is certainly a leading product... but I haven't always liked McAfee, and despise most products that require annual renewal.

In 2007, CNET gave Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 Editor's Choice status for "best value and performance". As an occasional Apple user, I purchased a Parallel's package that included Acronis Imaging software and Kaspersky Anti-Virus at a huge discount, so at this point, I'll probably go with them when eTrust is no longer recieving signature updates.

Looks like CNET chose Kaspersky for 2008 as well...

I did submit a false positive report to Computer Associates. Hopefully they will release an update to their virus definitions soon.

Something does seem strange with BC3. After installation, Windows Defender spends up to 15 seconds of 100% CPU to scan the runtime exe every time I start BC3 (well it did until I excluded it from scanning). Perhaps BC3 uses a "packer" or some similar thing that malware also uses (even though BC3 is not malware).

                    Hi Pete,

It might just require a definition update for Windows Defender. We don't have any spyware or malware in BC, but over the years we've had quite a few different anti-virus vendors give false positives when scanning BC.

We have a list of anti-virus false positives at the following link:
Beyond Compare is a multi-platform utility that combines directory compare and file compare functions in one package. Use it to manage source code, keep directories in sync, compare program output, etc.
