If I am not mistaken, imaging tools accomplish this by performing a sector-based copy rather than a file-based copy... in other words, copying hard drive data without establishing a handle on the file itself.

    Hello ardee,

First, you can install the BC3 trial without uninstalling BC2. By default it installs to a separate directory and stores settings in a different location.

    1. We have improved support in this area, but cannot copy in all circumstances. Are you still running into specific trouble?

    2. We do not support pause/resume for long syncs. If you abort and start again, we do support Resume file for FTP transfers.

    3. We show the status and file size of the transfer. The status bar at the bottom does not update during the transfer itself.

    4. We identify moved text as an important difference. You can use an external conversion to Sort your files:
    http://www.scootersoftware.com/suppo...conversion.php

    5. BC3 currently has a progress bar and shows the file size of the transfer, and we do show the time in the lower right corner.

    6. The taskbar shows the current % of the transfer.

Our BC3 trial is fully featured. I would recommend installing it and giving it a try to see if you like the way it works, or if you have any other questions.

    v3 vs. v2 (questions)

I've been a BC user for 6 years (and have recommended it to others). I've kept a wishlist (in my head). I just now see/remember that v3 is out but I'm not sure which of the wishlist items have been done, so I list them below (more or less in order of importance to me):

[BTW, I mainly use BC to keep "backup" disks/partitions consistent with primary ones.]

    1. The ability to copy open files, like registry or Outlook files. (I know that nowadays several inexpensive imaging tools can do this.)

    2. The ability to pause/resume a long sync.

    3. Periodically updating the free space indicators to reflect progress.

    4. During a text comparison, the ability to recognize MOVED blocks of text (as the DOS utility called "Beyond Compare", no relation, had in the mid-1980s).

    5. For long actions, show the estimated completion time or time left.

    6. A progress indication in the taskbar icon.

Thanks for any info on these!
