  • Folder and Text Compare (1-way)

OK, it way seem silly at first, but Beyond Compare is so far ahead of Windows Explorer that I often use Beyond Compare instead. I especially love the ability to filter out directories and files I'm not interested in.

I evaluated may windows explorer replacements, but keep I seem to be rather spoiled with BC ... hard to give up the features BC has, not to mention ease of use (& years of practice

So, it would be really handy if I could hide one side of the Folder Tree - especially if it's empty. In the Text Compare the midpoint can be dragged right or left to get a similar effect, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this with the folders.

Being able to see the Files in a List view would be a bonus feature,
as would having the Folders on the Left and actual file content on the right.

    Thanks!

Thanks for bringing this up. While I do like the way that BC3 mirrors column widths on both sides of the compare, there are times that I've wished that I could toggle back and forth between two modes: mirrored column widths and side-independent column widths. I agree that it would be nice to be able to manage each side independently or hide one side altogether. There are times that I've actually dragged half of the BC3 window off the left or right side of the screen in order to hide one side of the compare... but that really isn't very affective since BC3 prevents the user from sizing the application window larger than the actual size of the desktop. In other words, there is no way to drag half of the compare off of the screen then enlarge the BC3 window so that the remaining side of the compare takes up the majority of the visible screen.
