Full Refresh & Folder Expansion

Hello,
Issuing an Expand All will expand all currently viewed folders and subfolders. A (Fast) Refresh will preserve these expanded folders, but does not re-issue an Expand All for any new folders found. You would need to issue the Expand All command again.
Alternatively, you could use the Session menu -> Session Setting -> Handling tab options to set rules for expanding folders, then issue a Full Refresh. A Full Refresh, as discussed, does not preserve the current folder constellation, and will instead reload the entire comparison and use the Handling options to expand folders as defined.
Folder coloring will always inherit the colors of the files below to indicate if any files have changed.Leave a comment:

Hello,
Thanks for the clarification. While it is expected to be applied to that specific file, it is not currently designed to apply to all files. The issue is that it would not be a "Quick" Refresh to detect that change and apply it to all files. It is something we would like to look into, but for now you will need to perform a Full Refresh.Leave a comment:

Yes, Text Compare is a Child session of a Folder Compare. Like I said I apply the settings in Child & set it for all the files in Parent Folder. But when I do a Quick Refresh in Parent folder, those changes are not applied to other children for that Parent. I'm using BC3 3.2.1 beta.Leave a comment:

Hello,
Are you accessing the Text Compare as a child session (double click) from a Folder Compare? As soon as you change the child sessions' settings, the parent Folder Compare should update the center column as soon as the child session's are applied.
Which version of BC3 are you using? 3.1.11 or 3.2.1 beta?Leave a comment:

Another related issue - In Folder Comparison When I change the "Replacement" at some file level & then apply it to parent folder, Quick Refresh doesn't refer the changes made to "Replacement" (the files are compared using Rule Based).Leave a comment:

"Refresh" rescans the directory structures for any files with changed sizes or timestamps. If you have one of the "Compare Contents" options checked it will automatically recompare any files that have changed, without recomparing the ones that haven't.
"Full Refresh" throws everything out and starts from scratch, as if you just loaded the comparison. Retaining any information from the original comparison goes contrary to what it's trying to do.Leave a comment:

"Normal" refresh retains the expansion but that's what I don't use usually as I suppose it doesn't refresh the files & only updates the directory structure. Whereas "Full Refresh" also reloads the files. Correct me if I'm wrong.Leave a comment:

Does the "normal" refresh not work in your situation?
This would preserve the folder constellation ...

Hello,
It is not possible with the current version of BC3. Thanks for the suggestion. Currently, a Full Refresh will not save your expanded folder state, and completely resets the current comparison. It is on our Customer Wishlist to enhance this behavior, and I'll add your notes.Leave a comment:

Full Refresh & Folder Expansion
Hi,
Whenever I do a "Full Refresh" I lose the Folder Expansion, and then I have to expand all of them again. Is it possible to retain the folder expansion?Tags: None
