Supressing line numbers Text Compare Reports

Can a Text Compare Report be saved as plain text without line numbers?
If so, how?

I have a need to confirm changes made to one text file have been made to another file.

The two files in question are different enough to preclude comparing the files directly. Therefore I am using Text Compare Reports (saved as plain text) to focus on the changes made to each file. This should allow me to confirm the same change has been made to all files.

I could ignore leading numbers when comparing the report files of course, but I am curious if there is something I missed in the file save options.

Hello,

Which version of Beyond Compare 3 and which Text Report layout are you currently generating? For example, the Side-by-Side report has "Include line numbers" as a option you can disable before generating the report. Simply go to the Text Compare's Session menu -> Text Compare Report, select Side-by-Side, and uncheck "Include line numbers", then select Plain Text and Copy to Clipboard or Save As.

You could also use the Display Filters to show only Different text on the screen, then use the Select All command, Copy, open a new Text Compare tab and use the Open Clipboard to paste in the text for comparison. Repeat for your other file and then compare the two copied text sections.

How do these suggestions work for you?

I was using 'Interleaved'.

The Packers made the Steelers pay for every mistake. That's a good way to win any game. Let's hope for a rematch next year! (With a better result of course!)

Hello,

The Interleaved style requires the line numbers as a means of presenting the information. They are required to show which lines are aligning in your pair of files. Would one of the other report styles meet your needs?

Also, is it an option to use the GUI of BC3 itself to review and find differences, or do you need to output as plain text and review there? Would the output options to HTML help in readability?

disabling line numbers in scripted text reports

I am trying to do something very similar here (compare text report) generated by a Beyond Compare script. From reading this thread and the scripting reference, both patch and interleaved display line numbers (even w/o line-numbers specified in the script, snapshot below).

Is there a way to add a "grammar rule" to ignore line number differences? (I am talking about ignoring the lines in the text of the report itself). For example:

1: 321, 322a
2:-blah
3:+ blah blah
4: 456,459
5:xxxx
6:yyyy
...

I want to ignore 321, 322 and 456, 459 during comparisons of two patches (or interleaved report), not the 1: 2: 3:, etc indicating which line in the report the difference occurs.
