Excluding differences from portions of a columns

Hi,

Our requirement is to compare data whereby in some instances we would like to ignore cell reference differences from two spreadsheets. For example,

- 20,000 records per spreadsheet
- 5,000 differences in column 'C'

In this case, we would like to ignore the 5,000 differences and include the remaining 15,000 records in our comparison. Our main requirement is to avoid excluding the whole of column C using the current options in the data compare session settings, and only exclude the 5,000 known differences.

Is there anyway of doing this?

Could you go into more detail on what defines these differences?

Is it specific row numbers that column C should then be ignored for (but not ignored for other rows)? Does this take into account the sorting of the Key column, or is sorting disabled?

Or is it a numeric tolerance or other factor that can be defined?

This is exactly what we want. This is to cover the possibility of multiple differences in one row.

I am unsure what this part means. The results are unsorted (sorted by generated PK).

This is not related to numerical tolerances or other factors.

Hello,

If you want to ignore a specific set of cells (defined by row 3 through 5, column 3), BC3's Data Compare does not currently support this functionality.

You'll need to use our Text Compare, and open your data files as text. You mention you are not sorting, which is one of the features Text Compare would not support, so this should be ok.
You can download the Text Compare file format for Excel files here:

Then open the Text Compare, and open your files. They will appear in a comma delimited list. You can then define Unimportant text based on the value in the cell. We cannot define by position, but we can define on the text itself. Please see this article:
