Hide search box

Is it possible to have the search box not display automatically once it is used. For example, if I am comparing two files and want to find each occurrence of some word, I open the search box to find the first one. I would prefer to use F3 at that point but I have to manually close the search window. Can it be made to close by itself after the first search?

Yes, there should be a "Close automatically" checkbox at the bottom of the Find dialog. That will cause the window to close after the first search. And the setting is sticky, so you only have to do it once to get the behaviour you want.
