  • BC 3 Folder compare fails to match filenames with accented characters

With Beyond Compare 3.3.13 on Windows 10, I have a folder compare of two Linux machines that fails to match filenames containing accented characters (see attachment ). In the listing, one side correctly displays (for instance) an "e" with grave accent (è), while the other side displays the character as "é". The files are named and display correctly on both servers.

    Any idea what's happening here?

Are you accessing the machines via FTP or SFTP? If so, setting the character encoding of the servers might help. In Beyond Compare 3, open Tools > FTP Profiles. Select a server. In the General tab, change the Encoding dropdown from Detect to UTF-8 or the encoding used by the server, then Save.

Nice! That worked - thanks, Chris.
