  • Is there a way to permanently align two files?

How can I replace 'missing' lines with real lines so the files are permanently aligned? Is there any way to do that?

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hello,

The Align With is not a saved session setting. This is an item on our wishlist. The only saved session settings are in the Session menu -> Session Settings, Alignment tab; here you can tweak settings to try to make the automatic alignment better to align as you expect without manual adjustment.

Do you have any example files you would be able to send in that we could add to our test cases? If so, please email us at [email protected] with a link back to this forum thread, your sample files, and the BCSupport.zip from the Help menu -> Support; Export.

The alignment works great, which is why I want to save it.

Sometimes I do Excel calculations on data in text files that is grouped into multiple sections. In one file the section could be short and in another file, it could be longer (and so on with the multiple sections that follow).

I like using the power of Beyond Compare to align the section headers by padding extra rows where needed. Now it would be great if I could preserve that alignment when I copy the nicely aligned files from Beyond Compare into Excel to do my calculations.

        Hello,

So the request is actually to insert whitespace (line ending characters) into the cross-hatched area within BC3's Text Compare? It isn't about preserving an aligning within BC3 itself.
