  • Folder Sync - how to handle deleted files...

When we build a new server, we first copy everything over with robocopy during the day and then within the next week do a BC at night to get the changes. I realized today that doing a folder compare - with source on the left and destination on the right - and selecting-all on the left and doing update to the right... I'm not accounting for files that have been deleted on the left (source). The destination will still have files that they had deleted, since I had done the copy.

A folder sync with "update both" ways seems a better solution. But how will that handle deleted files on the left (source)?
Under sync settings I don't see anything that addresses this.

To remove deleted files with a sync, use the "Actions > Synchronize > Mirror to Right" or Mirror to Left commands.

The mirror commands make the target folder identical to the source folder. This includes copying orphan files from source to target, copying files with any differences from source to target, and deleting orphan files in the target folder.

Beyond Compare doesn't provide a way to sync in both directions and propagate deletes.

Ok, I just ran that (didn't execute it) and that does show just what I was hoping to see; that some files in the destination will be deleted (the files that were deleted in the source). Thanks Chris.

        Hello,

A Sync Mirror would copy over any files that are not equal (newer, older, different, or orphans) and will also delete orphans on the destination side. That should be what the preview represents.
