  • [Data Viewer] Trims whitespace no matter what

    Hello,

I set up two identical small pipe delimited files (no text qualifier) and in one I padded several of the fields with leading and trailing whitespace. When I view them via the "Data Viewer" it trims the space no matter what and displays all data with no extra padded space. The comparison result is telling me the files are identical, which is incorrect.

I have told BC3 to not trim extra whitespace:
    "Data Format" button
    "Type" Tab
The "Trim leading and trailing whitespace" box is not checked.

I have also verified that the column also considers whitespace important:
    Sessions -> Session Settings
    "Columns" tab
Select column with padded trailing/leading whitespace
    Click "Edit" button
In the area "Text important, except for" the check box for "Whitespace" is not checked.
Tried with with "Use default" both checked and unchecked.

It would appear that no matter what you specify, the Data Viewer always trims leading/trailing whitespace.

This results in erroneous comparison results when trailing/leading whitespace is important.

Please let me know if there is some setting I am missing.

    Thanks,

    -Shawn

Thanks for lettings us know about this case you've run into. This is an area of the application we are looking into to make a bit more intuitive and user-friendly. I've added your case to our notes.

There is not currently a way to deal with whitespace in the way you suggest; the option currently acts on whitespace within a text qualified area.
