  • 10221 Data COmpare missing one line on left side

I have some files on which the Text Compare shows all lines, but Data Compare misses the first on the right:

Is this because some auto-detect has eaten it as field titles? In which case, how do I prevent this?

In the Columns tab under Session Settings, right-click on a column header and choose "Reset Names".
Also, if you want to preserve the order of your text file, make sure you've enabled the "Unsorted alignment" checkbox.

Thanks, but has no effect here (build 10221)... as expected from Help:

To revert all columns to automatic naming, select Reset Names

      Good to know - thanks.

To identify whether the first line of the file is the header or a regular row, you'll need to edit the appropropriate Data Format (<default> in your case). Switch to the Type page, and change First line contains (to Cell data in your case).

Thanks. I see the current setting is Detect. Wouldn't that be expected to choose Cell data in this case? I.e. from the fact that the first and second rows have high similarity.

            Hi Chris,

If you send the files to [email protected], I can determine why the detection is not working as you expect.

I don't think you sent the same 2 files you were comparing in your original screenshot. Can you send those files instead?

                Thanks,

Correct (sorry not to say) - they were not files, just clipboard content...

                  > Can you send those files instead?

... which I no longer have.

The files I sent show a similar Detect failure, no? If not, I can attempt to reproduce the first case.

I'm not able to get a detect failure with the files you sent. If you can't either, please send me a different set of files. Your settings and instructions would also be useful.

                    Thanks,

                      I can: http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/8660/temp.gif

                      Do you get something different?

I do not see detected column names like in your screenshot. Please send your settings files (Help -> Support) and I'll try to reproduce it using them.

                        Thanks,

"King of Rhythm 1937-1944" is a detected column name, surely??

Nope, the first and second line have the same format so it shouldn't be detecting column names. Is it possible you assigned names (ex. "Fill Names Using Left File")? Please send your settings.

I would like to 100% clear here. Are you are saying this is NOT a detected column name?
