  • Can I do duplicate file searching with BC?

I need to do a search of my HDD looking for files that are the same, but with different filenames or in different places. Can I use beyond compare to do this? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I thought I'd check!

Beyond Compare is not designed to easily find duplicates based on content rather than file name and location. Duplicate finding is on our wishlist, but I would recommend searching for a specific software suite for duplicate finding. Here is a blog post on the subject:
Windows only: A little sloppy file keeping can lead to a lot of duplicate and space-hogging files. Dig up all your dupes with the speedy Fast Duplicate File Finder.

The not so easy way with BC3 is to enable the CRC column, use the flattened folder view, and sort by CRC. This will cause duplicate files to be grouped together (files with the same CRC). Of course, it is rather tedious to manually look through the results to find the groupings of equal CRC values.
