  • Limited replacements ?

    Hi,

I want to setup a replacement to ignore differences in LDIF dumps : long lines are split at 79 chars and "\n " (space after \n) is inserted so "continuing lines" start at col. 2
I want to ignore those "\n " and treat them as "" (nothing).

In BC, \n does not seem to be recognized in "Text to find" (replacement dialog) and it's even impossible to replace with nothing !! Why is that ? It's possible to workaround this with regex tagged expressions but it's not very clean.

I understand that it is a choice to go line-oriented vs document-oriented replacements and I guess BC's choice is the best default. But could you consider adding pre-load document-oriented replacements to catch with that kind of comparision problems ? Or maybe I just didn't RTFM enough and there is a nice and easy solution ?

It isn't possible to compare across line breaks in Beyond Compare. This is on our wish list.

So, in BC 3.0.0, it isn't possible to make the following text show as a match:

    Sample text.

    and

    Sample
    text.
