Next/Prev edit to jump among edits

The color coding already marks edits but I just had the desire to jump back to an edit and double check it. Since I did a CTRL-R, it's no longer a 'difference' so Previous Difference would not work. Is there a method of jumping among edits?

Open a Text Compare and go to Customize Commands.

Here you can assign a Hotkey combination to the Next/Prev Edit Command.

Doh . Blind as a bat - I overlooked those commands despite them having their own section on the Search menu.

There's also the Nav Buttons on the bottom of the right panel's vertical scrollbar. If you click the center circle you can switch it to "Browse by Edit", and then the up and down arrows will jump between them.

Hmmm, promising.

I notice that the Search Next/Previous Edit menu items do not work unless Browse by Edit is selected. Once that is selected, both the arrow buttons and menu items will locate the edit.

Pre/Next Edit seem to work fine for me, regardless of the button.

Could you send your settings from the Help menu -> Support; Export to [email protected] and describe the issue (or link to this forum post)?

I think I've got it, the search only positions the previous edit in 'view' if the edited line is not currently 'selected'. So if I've scrolled the window down, via the scroll bar or mouse wheel, the prev/next edit search does nothing because that line is still 'selected', although not in view.

Thanks for pointing that out. That action should probably be disabled. We'll look into that behavior.

Hint... If you want to bring the current line with focus back into view, choose Search \ Go To... (Ctrl+G) then click OK without changing the line and column numbers. You'll lose your selection but the line will come back on the screen.

Scooter, if the Go To... dialog is used without changing the line and column reference, would it be possible to preserve the users current selection?

Here's another one. Even with the selection on a different line (much further down in the file) the previous edit command does not work unless you 'select' the side on which the edit occurred. This may be by design though - I might want to be able to jump between edits on a per side basis. So consider that before you consider fixing it

Thanks for the GoTo tip Michael! Loosing the selection doesn't bother me so much but I like that I can jump back to where I was. I always have Details on and just realized I can click down there to return as well since it's the currently selected line.

I believe Aaron was saying that the prev/next buttons should be disabled if you are on the last edit and there is no prev or next edit to go to.

Ok. I see Browse by Difference Section does just that. But by Difference/Edit/Find does not. Something missed?

Just different behavior between similar functions. We'll be looking into this and make this a bit more intuitive in a future (not necessarily the next) release.

I usually just press an arrow key, which scrolls the current position (off by one) back into view.

I suppose holding down Shift and pressing RightArrow and then LeftArrow would reposition precisely and retain any selection.
