What is equivalent BC3 *keyboard* command for Copy Line to Left?

One way you can make things work like BC2 is to turn on the "Lines are independent" option in the "Misc" tab of the File Formats dialog. That effectively disable's BC3's support for "sections", so Copy to Left/Right will either copy the current line or the current selection.

That would appear to be the closest approximation of the behaviour.

No, I am not mistaken. I never said that the arrow keys change the selected line in BC3. I said that the "Copy to Left" function performs the bulleted items that you listed. It does.

I went on to describe how to make a selection in BC3. I never claimed that selecting a line in BC3 worked exactly the same as it did BC2. BC3 has a full edit mode and dynamic re-compares. BC2 does not. Some default functionality in BC3 has changed to accommodate these new features.

You are right that a spacebar in BC2 performs a manual align. I worded this section poorly by combining two thoughts into one sentence: that BC3 Line-Edit mode works more like BC2 (it does), and that the Spacebar is an easy keyboard shortcut to select a line (it is). Ctrl+Click is another easy way to select a line in BC3 Line-Edit mode.

The "Copy to Left" does what you describe BC2 as doing:

• If only a single line is selected, copy that line to the left pane
• If multiple lines are selected, copy all selected lines to the left pane

You are mistaken. In BC3, using the arrow keys to navigate up and down when full edit is turned off only changes the focused line (the little dotted rectangle), not the selected line. There is no default selection. When Copy to Left is executed with the focus inside a difference section and no lines are actually selected, the entire difference section is copied.

Whereas in BC2, there is always a selected line: it's on the active-pane side of the focused line. If the right pane is active and Copy to Left is executed, the selected (and focused) line is copied to the left pane.

Press F2 to toggle into line-edit mode and BC3 will act more like BC2. Spacebar will select a single line, etc. In full-edit mode, a gutter click will select a single line.

You are mistaken again. In BC2, the space bar places a manual alignment marker.

In BC2, I had Ctrl+Left Arrow bound to Copy Line to Left. This had the following behaviour:

• If only a single line is selected, copy that line to the left pane
• If multiple lines are selected, copy all selected lines to the left pane

Now, with BC3, there are two "Copy to Left" commands available for keyboard binding, but neither of them does what BC2 did:

• "Copy Line to Left" - this only copies the *focused* line; it ignores multiple selected lines
• "Copy to Left" - when only a single line is focused, it copies the entire section, rather than just a single line

(Of course, the analogous situation occurs for Copy to Right)

How can I get BC2 behaviour in this respect out of BC3?
