  • file and directory comparisons using HTTP

I like being able to compare c:\bogussite\whatever\file1.html to http://bogussite.com/whatever/file1.html but there does not appear to be an automated way to compare complete local and http directory structures. Am I missing something?

    No.

Currently Beyond Compare supports the http:// protocol to load a file in the Text Comparison, but cannot load http:// as a folder structure.

Instead, access the website through ftp:// to navigate the folders and files.

Request for Enhancement - Folder compare with HTTP

I would like to request that you consider the ablity to folder compare on HTTP in a future release of BC. This would be very useful to me. (Even if this support was read only).

        Hello,

HTTP Support is on our Customer Wishlist. Most websites would also host their files using an FTP connection; if you are able to request access to the ftp you should be able to compare against the website.

Thanks for the suggestion. Many web servers disable directory listings (it is considered a good security practice), so the ability to load an HTTP address in the folder compare might be of limited use.

Support for WebDAV (extensions to HTTP that allow editing) is on our wish list for a future release.

It seems that WebDAV support is in the wish-list for a pretty long time. Well at least I guess mounting the file system would give some basic support.
