  • file permissions when editing

Is there a way to preserve the unix file permission settings when editing files in BC?

    scenario:
    - a file has unix permissions of (say) 750
    - I edit the file in BC text editor,
    - The file's permission is changed to 644

(When I edit the file using any other windows based text editor, the file permissions are not altered)

I'm using 3.1.9 build 11828 on Windows platforms
-with mapped drive connections to Unix files

    thanks

Do you mean a mounted Samba share?
Well I tested your scenario at the office (SLES9, Samba 3.0.20, WinXP SP2):

    - create a test.txt in Windows explorer on the share (permissions are set to 744).
    - Change the permissions with WinSCP to 750.
    - Edit this file with PSPad on the windows machine (keeps 750).
    - Edit this file with BC3 on the windows machine (keeps 750).

Ergo: In my environment the permissions are not changed by BC3.

    Bye

      Hello,

What type of system are your remote drives pointing to? Is it a Unix system or a NAS device? What type and version?

What are the other specific programs you are using besides Beyond Compare 3?

I'm using ExpanDrive (v1.8.3) to connect to the Unix system
The files I'm accessing is local to the the Unix server - not on a separate mount point

Does it work correctly for you if you use the built in FTP, FTPS, or SFTP support in Beyond Compare 3?

            Hi
Sorry took a while to get back to you.

I tried the ftp method & the permissions was not altered.

            Thanks.

              Hi

I have the same problem on Linux samba share
BC3 create temp file (with default permissions) and move it to original.
              Could you please help!

                Stas,

You don't need to post in multiple threads; I've gotten back to you in yours. This is also a different (but related) issue, since hien is using ExpanDrive, not Samba.
