  • only difference is newline at end

    Hi,

Comparing two text files where the only difference is that one ends in a newline, and the other doesn't, shows no differences in a Text Compare, although I expect it should (probably as an 'unimportant difference')

Hex compare does clearly show that one file has a CRLF at the end, and the other does not

    Using BC3 3.2.3 (13046)

    Hello,

You can enable in the Text Compare's View menu -> Visible Whitespace. This should show the line ending characters, using different symbols for different line ending characters. These are, by default, unimportant. You can go to the Session menu -> Session Settings, Importance tab, and enable "Compare Line Endings" to mark this type of difference as important to your comparison.

If you wish for this to always be important, please use the lower left dropdown to change from "Use for this view only" to "Also update session defaults."
Alternatively, you can change this option on the Home screen, in the green Edit session defaults folder, in the default Text Compare session's Importance tab.

Does that help clear up the current behavior for you? Let us know if you have any questions.
