  • Data Compare Merge

    Hi,

Is there any way to merge the differences after Data Compare (csv files)?

    Thanks,
    Tim Chun

You can copy rows between .csv files in the Data Compare using the "Edit > Copy to Right" and "Edit > Copy to Left" commands.

      Chris,

Thank you for your reply but I don't see the menu options that you specified above. Only options that I see under Edit menu are "Copy" and "Select All". Is it related to the version that I'm using (ver 3.0.15 build 9758)?

      Thanks
      TC

Yes, version 3.0.15 doesn't support editing in the Data Compare, it was added in a later version. If you update to the current version 3.3.3 it will allow you to edit .csv files in the Data Compare.

To update, download the new version from our web site and install it over the top of the old version. The download page is: http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php

I installed the latest (ver 3.3.3) but the "Copy to Right/Left" option doesn't do anything. Also, I couldn't edit the contents directly even after selecting "Edit" option. Please help, what am I missing?

          Thanks,

When I tried with other .csv files it is working as you described above. I'm not sure why it wasn't working for my initial compare.

Thank you so much for your help. -TC

I found why it didn't work on my first case. It was because I had different column list in my first compare files. It'll be nice if I can push/merge columns as well.

              Thanks,
              Tim Chun

                Hello,

Were you able to manually re-arrange your columns using the Session menu -> Session Settings, Columns tab? You can then click individual cells (which represent columns on the left or right) and move them up or down in alignment. Or are you running into a different issue? A screenshot may help.

Below is what I'm refering to. I can merge the second row but not the first.

                  1. File1.csv
                  a, b, c, d, e
                  q, w, e, r, t

                  2. File2.csv
                  a, b, c, d, e, f
                  q, w, e, r, r

                  Thanks,
                  Tim Chun

                    Thanks for the example, Maz.

The issue is that BC3 does not currently support any form of 'Add Column'. When you copy from files with different numbers of columns, we can align the columns and alter the aligned pairs, but not the unaligned columns. If your example was:
                    a,b,c,d,g vs. a,b,c,d,e,f

You should notice the g and e are copied, but the f is not.

Adding support for this is on our Customer Wishlist, but is still in the early design phases and will not likely be implemented soon.
