  • Compare folders and copy differences to an external disk?

I keep copies of image files at two separate locations (actually two different countries) but it's frequently impractical to synchronise folders directly because of bandwidth restrictions. What I would like to do is make the comparison and copy the differences between the (current) location A and the (remote) location B be to an external eSATA drive at location A. When I fly to location B with my eSATA drive, I can then sync the files at location B from that. Is there any way of achieving this? Through scripting perhaps?

It sounds like you are looking for something like this:
Beyond Compare is a multi-platform utility that combines directory compare and file compare functions in one package. Use it to manage source code, keep directories in sync, compare program output, etc.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that our content scans (binary, rules-based) need to download the full file to perform the content scan. CRC does too, unless your server supports the xCRC command, at which point we use that and only download the CRC code itself. Otherwise, you would need to rely on a Timestamp/Size comparison to reduce bandwidth.

Thanks for the reply. Normally I don't need to make content scans so I'll give it a go.
