  • Compare from col 1 to 72, but stop at EOL

    Hello,

I need to compare files which have this main characteristic:

Main text is from column 1 to 72 and all columns after 73 can be ignored.

But sometimes is occurs, that some lines of one file stop before 72 chars.
In this case, this shouldn't be important. But it is shown as important.
What can I do to achieve this?

    Example:

Under Session Settings - Importance I have defined one Grammar with

Category Column and Text column from 1 to 72
Default text like trailing whitespace are not checked.

    Thanks Dirk

    Hello,

That whitespace is part of the grammar 1-72, so it is also important. The checkbox for trailing whitespace only has an effect if the whitespace is not part of a defined grammar ("Everything Else").

Instead of having a grammar for 1-72, instead define a grammar for 73 to end of line (type: Delimited). Then mark that grammar as Unimportant. This way, the rest of the 1-72 text falls into the 'everything else' type, and at that point will use the Trailing Whitespace option you've defined.

How does this sound to you? Please let us know if you have any questions.
