  • Detection of moved text blocks

Perhaps I'm just not aware of this feature but the only thing I miss about beyond compare right now is the possibility to detect moved text blocks. I always get the block marked as added/removed... but I would much rather prefer a "moved" marking....

Is there a way to handle this? I know that there are some tools out there that can, I once saw a plugin for the notepad++ handling this...

    Thanks in advance

Sorry, the current version of Beyond Compare (3.3.8) cannot detect moved blocks of text. They will show as changes.

Detecting moved text is on our wish list for a future version of BC.

      When?

This has seemingly been on the wishlist for years (dating back at least to 2006 as far as I can tell). Is there any actual development roadmap that includes this feature or must we choose an alternative comparison tool to get the feature?

We do not have a public posting of our wishlist. We have a small team and we have not had the spare development resources to implement it yet. You can see a list of what we have managed to accomplish in the current version of BC3 or in our changelog:

Detecting moved blocks is definitely something we still want to tackle, but is a large project and not something we will likely be able to implement soon.

Is this feature available, now (2019)?

          Thanks.

Not out of the box. BC4 does support External Conversions, which can tidy and sort syntax. We have an example (for RESX files) here:
            http://www.scootersoftware.com/suppo...rnalconversion

We also have a few "tidied" formats for download for other file types, here:
            http://www.scootersoftware.com/downl..._moreformatsv4

Please note that if you edit and save in the new format, this will save the file in the formatted state (with the reordering and line breaks as displayed).
