It looks like a recent Windows update has caused problems with our built-in browser support. This affects both BC3 and BC4 under Windows.

If you do a Check for Updates, you will get this crash when you exit BC. If you do two Check for Updates, the second one crashes BC. The problem is also triggered by View as Webpage in Text Compare.

We will try to get this fixed soon.

Seeing the same issue with BC3 on my Win7 32-bit & 64-bit systems.

Problem started after the July 2014 Security Updates; had a look through the MS Security Bulletins and located the July patch that updates MSHTML.DLL.

Rolled back KB2962872 on one of my VM's and can confirm that the crashes no longer occur when checking for BC3 updates twice and/or closing the application after doing a check for updates.

Here's the KB URL in case it's of assistance:

        MS14-037: Security update for Internet Explorer versions 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11: July 8, 2014

This bug is fixed in Beyond Compare 4 beta build 18629 that we just released earlier today.

This fix will also be in our next release of Beyond Compare 3.

Where is the fixed build of BC3? I'm suprised a crash bug has been left unpatched in the "stable" version of BC for so long.

The fix we have is not a full fix yet and we're still working this one out. The next BC4 release will have additional tweaks to get it working in all environments. Once that's out, we'll hop back and get it back into BC3 as well.
