  • Error in msvcrt.dll

    Hello
At start of the program there is the following window with error "The procedure entry point_except_handler4_common could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll". What to do with it?

    Hello,

I haven't seen that report yet; did this occur every time or did BC4 work previously then stop working?

Which OS have you installed BC4 on? Did you use the installer from our website? I would recommend uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling from:
    http://www.scootersoftware.com/beta.php?zz=beta4_dl

Does that clear up this start up error?

It is occurs every time. I start the program. There is a window with a error. I close a window and the program start. OS windows xp sp3 32-bit. Installer from site. I uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled and no result. I restored the original msvcrt.dll file from original microsoft image (as offer in microsoft support), but it also gave nothing.

        Hello,

Given this error, it appears your msvcrt.dll may be out of date.

Do you have any Total Commander plug-ins loaded? If so, please unload them from your %AppData%\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare 4\Packers directory by moving them to your Desktop\ temporarily.

If there is a Packers\ directory in your install directory, please do the same.

There is also this blog post with a couple of solutions to try that other users have hit:
        http://www.abluestar.com/blog/the-pr...ary-msvcrtdll/

Testing on my own XP SP3 system, BC4's beta runs without hitting this error. Do either of these help get your system up and running?

Thanks for the help. Any way didn't help The error still appears. I think another file also influences it, not only msvcrt.dll (I copied it from the computer where the program works without this error, but on my computer the error also appears).

Copied from where to where? The error is generally about that file getting out of sync, so it is less about finding a 'working' copy and more about finding the correct version for your OS. You may want to try copying the file from your System directory into the Beyond Compare directory to see if that helps.

Copied to \system32 from another win xp sp3 system. I tried to copy dll into the Beyond Compare directory too, but without positive results.

And you tried getting a fresh copy from your XP CD Rom? Does it differ in Properties information from the one you got from the other XP SP3 machine?

The versions are identical. So, I think problem not in this file. But in what?

Has noticed that at start one of another programs, besides an error with msvcrt.dll there is a prevention "Unable to view HTML help (*.chm). Update windows help system". Perhaps, here there is a communication?

Is using Windows Repair an option for you? If multiple programs are complaining about multiple missing components, there might be something wrong generally. This doesn't sound like a BC3 specific problem. As always, backup all important files before performing any kind of maintenance.
