  • Run Multiple Folder Compare Sesstions From GUI?

    Hello All!

I have multiple folder compare sessions that I saved in the GUI. I frequently run about 5 of them by clicking each one (they have to go in order).

Is there a way I can run all 5 of these sessions in order from the GUI?

    Thank you,

    Jan

    Hello,

You can load the 5 sessions in new tabs, then use the Session menu -> Save Workspace to save a workspace that contains that window layout and loaded tabs.

Loading the workspace would then automatically load the sessions, with automatically run the comparison as set in each sessions Session Settings.

Great idea! Thank you. I can do it with scripts too right? That would probably be the easiest. I remember creating BC scripts a while ago then launcher multiple scrips with a batch file. Just 1 click and sit back and relax!

Is there an easy way to make/configure Beyond Compare scripts? Like a script builder GUI or an export option in the program? If not that would be really nice! If I could like right-click a stored session and select something like "export as script" then select run options, etc.

      thank you.

Sorry, not from the GUI. We try to keep our scripting language pretty simple, to help make it easy to configure and run scripts, but we don't have a GUI method of creating them. They are documented in the Help file -> Using Beyond Compare -> Scripts, and in the Scripting Reference main chapter.

The script can then load saved Folder Compare sessions (not Folder Sync) and then run Sync actions on the loaded session. I would suggest testing with test locations first, as script does not preview actions before committing them, and there is no Undo.

I use this solution for precisely this requirement and it works very well. I streamline it by using a portable install dedicated to the workspace, and set to load and save it automatically: http://i.imgur.com/mNkTQLr.png .

In addition to Chris' suggestion, if you need to load a workspace and not commit any script actions on it, you can also pass the workspace name as a command line parameter. This loads the workspace. Setting up a custom Windows Shortcut could then load a specific workspace set.
