  • Feature request: copy session to clipboard

Not sure if this one has been requested before. but would like to be able to copy session to clip board on windows version. main purpose would be to take a session from one copy of BC and do a quick copy/paste to another through shared clipboard in remote console session. I know i can export import but this would be a much quicker way to take single item and copy it across.

    Thanks for your consideration.

    Hello,

Would these be two separate processes of BCompare.exe running because of /solo? Or do you have two portable installs you are transferring between?

Could you go into more detail on your workflow, and how you are using multiple installs/processes of Beyond Compare, and how you are moving sessions from one to the other?

In this case I would have a copy installed on one windows machine and have a second windows machine that I am using remote desktop to access. (not usually 2 in same host). so would have added a session on my local system and would want to copy to create session with same details in the remote system. I do believe remote desktop will allow a shared clipboard.

Passing as a clipboard object over a remote connection would be fairly tricky. I do believe we have another feature which might help.

If you can share a network folder pointing to your settings location (Either in AppData, or if a Portable Install the install folder), then you can point one install of BC4 to the other install's BCSessions.xml and set it as a Shared Sessions file. Once defined in the Options dialog, Tweaks section, bottom of section in "Shared Sessions File", this then loads the alternate sessions file and gives you access to those sessions. If you do this for both installs, pointing them at each other, then either install would have access to the other's library.

I find Shared Sessions a great feature, but lhasadad note that shared sessions are read-only.
