  • align files with different extensions for comparison, not moves and copies

    Hi,

    I'm comparing files with identical names but different extensions fine, but I'd like to be able to copy or move from 1 side to the other without replacing the left side match. That is, I want the align extensions option to work for comparison but not for moves or copies.

    Example:
    file.ts <-> file.mp4
    ..

    After (say) copy file.mp4 to left, I want to see:
    file.ts <-> file.mp4
    file.mp4
    ..

    Currently would see:
    file.ts <-> file.mp4
    .. with original file.ts replaced by copy of right-side file.mp4

    Is this possible? If not, please consider this a feature request.

    Thanks,
    Mark M.

    BC4's Folder Compare Session menu -> Session Settings, Comparison tab includes an option to "Align filenames with different extensions". Copying would replace the aligned item, so you would need to use our Copy To Folder or Move to Folder commands and manually select the destination folder to prevent the overwrite.

      I thought I made it clear I was using Align filenames with different extensions; it's in the subject and should be clear in my message since I said "I'm comparing files with different extension fine" in the first sentence.

      I'm asking whether there's a way to override the behavior when copying or moving. I gather not. Then I asked for it to be a feature request if not. I'm not asking for a workaround; I figured that out long ago. It's all in the message if only it were read.

        Sorry for the confusion; I formed my response to be a full walkthrough for other users who find this thread, including setup instructions and workaround instructions.

        We appreciate the feedback of the request. It is something we can consider, but in the current version Copy To Other Side with aligned files will overwrite just as if they were aligned with equal names. Using the Copy To Folder command will copy the file into the target while keeping the original name.
