  • How to compare on CRC only?

Am comparing two folders with images.
In folder A, the files are correctly renamed (special characters have been removed, double spaces, etc.)
In folder B, there are totally different files, but also files that are in folder A, but not renamed, so, with special characters.
Also in folder B, quite some files have a slightly different timestamp (date is the same, but a different time)

Many of the files in Folder A en Folder B have the same CRC.

How to have those files displayed as duplicate, based on CRC only?

    See attachment.

Disabled compare "time stamp" in Rules and "Minor" in the toolbar.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

BC4's alignment is file name only, and then compares based on the defined comparison criteria (crc, timestamp, etc). BC4 does not support alignment on the CRC code, so this kind of alignment would have to be manual by selecting the files and the Align With... command, which will then run the comparison on the aligned files.

      Many thanks for the reply.
Up front: it is me alright and my lack of Beyond Compare knowledge.
      Sorry for that.

      But eh...
I am afraid having to confess that I am not entirely sure what you mean with 'align with' here.
I -assume)- that you mean that files in left and right are on the same line(?), i.e. side by side.

IF.. that is so, then in this case, that is not necessary.

When files are different, like in this example, the font is coloured purple.
When they are the same, they are in in black.

My idea/wish is that in case CRC's are matching, then files are identical and the font should be black.
Meaning that Beyond Compare should then ignore different file names as a result of file renaming.

This way they 'stand out' better and are more easily selected/deleted on one side.

      Thanks.

Yup, I think you've got it. Alignment is when the Left and Right are on the same line (alignment), and the aligned pair is what is compared (crc, binary, rules-based, timestamp, size, etc). When files are not aligned, they are Orphans (purple status color), and they can be manually aligned with the right click -> Align With menu, but can't auto-align based on the CRC code (or anything other than the Name or an Alignment Override rule based on the name).

Aligning on other criteria (like crc) is something on our wishlist, but isn't supported in BC4.

          Thanks again.
But as per the last para of my previous mail, there is no way to compare CRC onlt (forget alignment) and show matching files in black?
So I can at least delete matching files, i.e. files with the same CRC.

No, the alignment is based entirely on File Name, and has to happen first before any CRC comparison. Aligning on CRC is something on our wishlist.
