  • Slow refresh with huge files

Comparing 369MB text files, and it actually works great. Except when I change from All to Diffs or back. I have a pretty fast box with 32GB ram. Regular stuff, scroll up and down, page up and down, search for a string, pretty responsive. But switching from All to display only Diffs take 4-5 minutes. It does finally finish and display properly. But during the delay, CPU is just 17-20%, not much disk swapping going on. Can't imagine what it's doing. Any suggestions?

    Hello,

Which version of BC are you running, and is it 32 or 64bit installed, and on which OS and version of that OS?

How many grammar items are currently defined and which File Format are you using? Any extensive Alignment Override lists or any additional customizations you may have made?

It might help to email us at [email protected] with your BCSupport.zip from the Help menu -> Support; Export. And if you can include a full screen screenshot of a trouble comparison, we can then look at that session/format settings in your support.zip to see what kind of configuration you are running. Please also include a link back to this forum thread for our reference in the email.

      Aaron,

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I should have included that information. It's 64bit 4.3.5. I'll send the zip file and include the link to this. If there are configuration tweaks that might help this I'll use them. I have about 20 of these huge files to work on.

While I don't think there was an intentional change to address this behavior, it wouldn't hurt to update to 4.3.7 to make sure the most recent release still reproduces the issue. And which OS are you using?

I'll do that. Win 10. Still use BC extensively for clients on W7, haven't needed to do this there but I could try it if that might be informative.

Win10 is fine; I just wanted to make sure to set up a test system as close to what you have as able to recreate the issue. If you were running an old version of BC3 as 32bit with files that large that would be an easy indicator.
